International Experience Class (IEC)

International Experience Class (IEC) is a platform for the purpose of making applications for travelling and working abroad in countries and territories which have an agreement with Canada that permits the candidate to apply for an IEC Work Visa or help can be sought of a Recognized Association. Additionally, the candidate should meet the country specific requirements as well. Contact us to learn more about eligible countries.

Young Professionals:
Citizens of participating countries can gain valuable international experience by working for a Canadian company. Applicants to this category receive an employer-specific work permit if approved.

This category is for individuals who:

  • have a job offer in Canada that contributes to your professional development
  • Will work for the same employer in the same location during your stay in Canada

The employer must meet all labour laws in the province or territory you plan to work including meeting minimum wage requirements.

International Co-op:

This category is for individuals who:

  • is a student registered at a post-secondary institution;
  • has a job offer for a work placement or internship in Canada;
  • does this work placement or internship to complete your studies; and
  • plans to work for the same employer in the same location during your stay in Canada

Participants must arrange co-op placements with Canadian employers before applying.

The IEC operates on an Expression of Interest/Invitation to Apply model. Eligible candidates create an IEC profile but must receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) before they may submit an application.The application processing time is 4 weeks.

Processing time is the average for how long it takes from when an application is received to when a decision is made. If the candidate is invited to make an application, they will receive a message in their account. The message will list your category and your next steps.

Successful applicants receive a Port of Entry (POE) letter in their online account, however same does not guarantee entry into Canada or issuance of work permit.
